Between the collaboration between Shiseido and Wall Street Journal, Uotani talks about his “People First” philosophy, how he became CEO, and the future of Shiseido. When Masahiko Uotani was appointed president and CEO of Shiseido back in 2014, it was met with surprise by some Japanese business commentators. Few companies inhabit such hallowed ground in Japan as this beauty stalwart, which had been operating for over 140 years at the time of Mr. Uotani’s appointment —they celebrate their 150th anniversary this year.
