The Jr. NBA is the official youth basketball participation program of the NBA, offering a free, membership-based program for existing youth basketball leagues/organizations. The membership is to help encourage and support youth basketball participation and improve the overall youth basketball experience. poweredby.tokyo was tasked to capture the event recap video and still assets of the program around Japan.
JR NBA PROGRAM
poweredby.tokyo successfully executed a comprehensive Jr NBA outreach program across Japan, strategically divided into Summer and Spring campaigns. This extensive series covered diverse locations from metropolitan areas like Yokohama and Chiba to remote destinations such as Okinawa and Hokkaido, later extending to western Japan including Nagasaki, Saga, Fukuoka, and Hiroshima.
The program's wide geographic reach was crucial in fulfilling the NBA's mission to engage communities nationwide and make basketball accessible to all. Our team produced a captivating recap video and multiple sizzle reels, effectively capturing the spirit of the journey and the bonds formed among players, coaches, and NBA representatives.
EXPANDING NBA'S REACH
The campaign featured basketball clinics led by NBA-trained coaches, meet-and-greet sessions with current and former NBA players, and localized activities celebrating each region's culture. This multi-faceted approach not only engaged thousands of young players across 8 prefectures but also strengthened the NBA's presence in Japan beyond major urban centers. The project showcased poweredby.tokyo's ability to manage complex, multi-location campaigns while maintaining consistent brand messaging and high-quality content production, ultimately exceeding the NBA's goals for community engagement and youth basketball development in Japan.
Jr NBA: Yuta Watanabe
The Jr NBA program's impact was further amplified by the special appearance of NBA player Yuta Watanabe at the clinic in Fuchu, Tokyo. poweredby.tokyo seamlessly incorporated this high-profile visit into the existing program, enhancing the experience for young participants and creating additional content opportunities.
Our team not only captured Watanabe's involvement in the clinic activities but also produced footage for an upcoming NBA video series, maximizing the value of his presence. Additionally, we created short, engaging social media content featuring Watanabe congratulating NBA Japan on their new Instagram account, which was shared on X (formerly Twitter). This multi-faceted approach to Watanabe's appearance demonstrated poweredby.tokyo's agility in leveraging unexpected opportunities, creating content that served both immediate social media needs and long-term video projects while enhancing the overall impact of the Jr NBA program.
